“Photography to me is catching a moment which is passing, and which is true.” -Jacques-Henri Lartigue I was walking back from taking sunrise pictures of the Kilauea Crater at Hawaii Volcanos National Park when I happened across this beautiful Amakihi in the gray light of dawn. This gorgeous bird is part of the Hawaiian Honeycreeper family that has seen drastic habitat reduction by avian malaria in recent years. This beautiful Hawaiian Amakihi (part of the Hawaiian Honeycreeper Family) was photographed on the slopes of Haleakala on Maui. The Hawaiian Honeycreepers are relegated to increasingly high elevations by the spread of non-endemic mosquitoes that are spreading avian malaria in Hawaii. Many of the varieties of honeycreepers are endangered while the remainder are threatened. Sol Duc Falls in Olympic National Park with beautiful Autumn light filtering through the trees. This picture was taken in May of 2022 in Rocky Mount National Park. The weather was stormy and the clouds were gray and ominous. Just as I drove around a bend in the road and crested into Moraine Park, a valley in the National Park, the clouds broke in several places and momentarily turned Moraine Park into Shangri-La.
